Braincrack. A term familiar to nerdfighters world wide. I am stuffed full of it, and I would like to share it with all of you kind people.
Magic is my problem. I've been creating a world in my head, a world revolving around magic. Previously I've talked about a girl named Elodie Hunter. Despite the change of storyline, she's still the main character. Or one of them. I'm thinking of having 2 main characters, one with the common sense/ booksmarts and one with power but hating the responsibility.
I've also thought about the villain/enemy. No name yet, but it's a she. She is supposed to be the one with power, the one prophesied to defeat the evil side, and she was thought to be, until our heroine shows up. Eager to prove the world wrong, and wanting to make them regret ever replacing her with a stupid prat who doesn't even understand the amount of power she possessed, she turns over to the dark side.
The dark side, I believe, is a colony of non-magic people intent on destroying the magic community. For a long time the non-magic people, (muggles, in a sense, though I hate ripping anybody off) have thought of magic as a lie, or a trick, some psychological prank played on their minds. There are also people who think that magic is great, convenient, but most of these people are young and do not understand or just want to rebel against the older generation.
But news leaked out. People tried spreading the news of magic around the world, and they succeeded, partly, causing the Salem Witch trials. Magical people around the world were more powerful/ had more control in the government, and were able to dismiss it as a ridiculous lie started by deranged people. Now, in the year 1980, witches and wizards started feeling safer and started businesses in the 'muggle' world (I'll come up with a name soon), thus creating rapid industrial growth in magic hotspots, (countries with the most witches and wizards/magical creatures).
A non-magical man, named Malcolm Bankrall, started gaining supporters. They called themselves the Contemno, and they spread hatred against magic among the muggles.
That's a lot of the plot given out... But here's a little of how I think the magic works. People with magic, venificus, have a separate vein that pumps magic through their bodies evenly. Magic can be done with hands or with a glance, but wands are used to center the magic into one point, making it stronger. Wands could also be made of/infused with magical items, intensifying the effect.
Spells are a way to specify what you want your magic to do. It doesn't matter what language, but, most people struggle with making sure what they want their magic to do, therefore they stick to their old spells, mostly latin, in old spellbooks taught in magical schools.
Schools like these are rare, because if magical schools were situated in every city, there were bound to be questions about that school, and why they won't accept just any students. Therefore, only one magic school is sanctioned per continent. The school we're interested in is (no, not Hogwarts) Virtus Silva school of Magic, more commonly known as Virtus's.
These schools normally admit students from the years 10 to 18. Any education before that is either nondonum (my version of muggle) or home-schooled. Our heroine, Elodie, is an orphan, living in an orphanage in London. She, since the age of 5, had the strange ability to read minds. She quickly learned that this was not a good thing and hid it from everybody else after she was transferred to another orphanage when she was 7.
I'll start writing from age 10. But on my computer, of course. Not here, because It's likely to be as long and rambling as this.
Writing hard,
